5 Ways to Have A Pet AND A Clean Home

5 Ways to Have A Pet AND A Clean Home

If you have a pet, you’re one of the 85 million American households who understand how hard it is to keep a clean home. Constantly sweeping up hairballs, mopping the floors to remove wet paw prints, and not to mention the stuff we can’t see all raise the question, “how can I keep my house clean with a pet?” While it may be impossible to keep every bit of pet hair, dander, and odors completely eliminated at all times, there are things you can do to have a pet AND a much cleaner home.

1. Clean the House

While this is the one thing you’ll want to do the very least on this list, it’s imperative that it gets done. If you own a pet now, or have ever owned one, you should be used to this step by now. Make it a point to regularly clean your home, wiping down flat surfaces, mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming, and dusting air vents and ceiling fans. The more you do this, the less you’ll actually need to clean! Now, let’s talk about some ways we can clean our homes and improve our indoor air quality without having to do so much work.

2. Change Your Air Filters

Changing your filters regularly can keep your home cleaner, longer and improve your indoor air quality. Your air filter in your HVAC system is the barrier between clean air and dirty air. Over time, as your filter stops more and more airborne contaminants from entering your home, it can become clogged. This leads to unhealthy indoor air quality and an inefficient HVAC system with poor performance. Change your filters every 1-3 months (depending on your specific situation) and you’ll experience better comfort, cleaner indoor air, and lower energy bills!

3. Groom Your Pets

Keeping your pets groomed will help cut down on time spent cleaning your home. The more your pets are groomed, the less hair and dander they need to shed. Your home will stay cleaner longer and it will even smell better. We all know and love the smell of a freshly groomed pet!

4. Get Whole Home Air Purification

Whether or not you’re doing everything mentioned above, it’s still recommended you get an air purification system. Whole home air purification can eliminate 99.9% of airborne contaminants in your home including pet hair, dander, bacteria, and even odors! These systems reach every inch of conditioned air in your home and are the most effective option for keeping a clean, comfortable home with great indoor air quality. Check out the systems we offer today!

5. Do the Little Things

Among all of the above ways of keeping your home clean with pets, there are additional things you can do to ensure an even cleaner, healthier home. Doing the little things can really make a difference!

  • Wipe your pet’s feet before they come inside.
  • Use latex gloves to wipe down furniture. The hair sticks easily to the gloves and they can be disposed of immediately.
  • Use inexpensive decorative throws and pillows on furniture. You and your pet will be more comfy and your furniture will last longer.
  • Use an automatic vacuum cleaner for constant removal of pet hair from the floors.
  • Keep a tray or towel under your pet’s food and water bowl.
